Separated parenting during the lockdown

Parenting can be challenging at the best of times, never mind parenting through a separation or parenting whilst separated. And now there is parenting during a pandemic.

Don’t panic. We can help. Whether you’ve recently separated from your ex-partner or you’ve been separated a while and are just unsure how to organise arrangements during these times, we can help you.

The government have confirmed that during the lockdown children should not normally be moving between households but this may be necessary when children who are under 18 move between separated parents. Therefore, you may wish to continue with the arrangements you already had in place or given the circumstances you may wish to alter your arrangements for example to reduce the number of handovers.

If you are finding it difficult to talk to your ex-partner about your arrangement’s family mediation can help. It promotes positive communication between you and your ex-partner and can help to reduce tension, anger and misunderstanding. It focuses on fair solutions. You stay in control of the decision-making. It is also a cost-effective way to resolve disputes.

At Family Mediation North East, we pride ourselves on being an accessible and affordable service. We have been offering online services for years so when the lockdown was enforced we were able to quickly offer a remote service to our clients with no delay. We have sought assurance from the Legal Aid Agency that clients attending remotely can still apply for Legal Aid. They have confirmed this is the case. So if you’re struggling to make arrangements during these difficult times please get in touch. Contact us via email or call us on 01670 528441 to talk to one of our mediators. We look forward to hearing from you.
